Diabetic Cats in Need: Compassionate Assistance Program

Diabetic Cats in Need: Compassionate Assistance Program

Compassionate Assistance Program

DCIN's current financial assistance program is the Compassionate Assistance Program (CAP). With this program, there is little up-front information required from the caregiver and there will be no administrative follow-up on the cat or caregiver. What the program does is provide one-time assistance with certain insulins and other supplies (including testing supplies if the caregiver desires) to low-income caregivers. It also provides guidance to feline diabetes educational information and sites on the Internet, hoping to get the caregivers on the road to "appropriate treatment" for their cats.

You can now apply for CAP by using this form http://goo.gl/forms/NLM1rJN5lh

If one wishes to apply, please email DCIN's Executive Director at Jenna@dcin.info with:
  • Your cat's name and date of diagnosis.
  • A digital photo of your cat, if one is available.
  • What makes you a low-income caregiver. (CAP is a "need," not a "want," program.)
  • Your full name, mailing address, and phone number(s)
  • The insulin prescribed or to be prescribed for your cat. If DCIN accepts you into the program and you hope to receive a starter pen of Lantus or Levemir from DCIN, I will need a copy of the veterinarian's script faxed or emailed to me, although it doesn't have to be in your introductory email. I can provide the fax number by return email.
  • Whether you are interested in home testing your cat's blood glucose (BG) levels. (Hometesting BG levels is the first best way to keep your baby safe.)
  • What food you are feeding your diabetic cat and what you are feeding the dogs or other cats in your home if your diabetic cat has access to those foods. (If your cat goes outside, please also let me know that because that can affect its diet if it hunts or begs or steals food from neighbors.)
  • Whether you have joined an Internet forum at www.diabeticcatcare.com, www.diabeticcathelp.com, or www.felinediabetes.com and if so, what your user name is.
This is the "core" information DCIN sends out with CAP awards.
  • DCIN has a Financial Assistance Program (FAP) for low-income people appropriately treating their cats. The program is described at http://fdmb-cin.blogspot.com/2014/06/financial-assistance-program.html. However, that program is currently closed to new participants. But DCIN continues to support the five bullets at the top of the page that outline appropriate treatment.
  • During our FAP scale back period, DCIN has instituted what it is calling a Compassionate Assistance Program (CAP). CAP involves a one-time provision of starter insulin and (if the client will use it) blood glucose (BG) testing equipment. The CAP does not require appropriate treatment, but certainly encourages it.
  • There are three Internet forums for caregivers of diabetic cats that DCIN sanctions under its FAP. They are the Feline Diabetes Message Board or the Forums on Diabetic Cat Help or Diabetic Cat Care. I highly suggest that you look at those forums and actively participate on one of them.
  • DCIN can send you starter supplies to hometest your cat's BG levels. Hometesting is the first best way to keep your cat safe and healthy. Some vets don't approve of hometesting, wanting instead to test a cat's BG levels in the office, which doesn't work well because (1) of the expense, (2) of the infrequency, and (3) most cats get vet stress, which raises a cat's BG levels and thus makes the test results invalid. DCIN supplies the manufacturer's unbranded version of the Walmart Relion Confirm BG testing system, one of the more common systems used to hometest diabetic cats. That way, after DCIN provides the starter kit (meter and strips), you would be able to buy additional strips at a local Walmart. However, to avoid wasting DCIN resources, DCIN will send the testing equipment only if you are willing to test. You can read more about hometesting at http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=287. Take at look at Mark and Buddy's YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zE12-4fVn8.
  • To understand the best way to feed your cat, see Dr. Lisa Pierson's page at http://catinfo.org/. Her main page talks about feline diet in general, and there are links on the right to her page on diabetes and to her chart of the nutritional values of various canned foods (called "protein, fat, carbs chart"). Many of us feed the Fancy Feast Classic line of foods (all under 10% carbs). We avoid the fish flavors, because those are hard on the kidneys, and diabetes already is hard enough on the kidneys. DCIN always recommends avoiding the prescription diets for diabetics because they have higher carbohydrates and lower meat protein quality than do far many less expensive commercial pate canned foods. We oppose dry food for any cat, but especially for diabetic cats.
  • DCIN can assist with insulin.  We will assist with Lantus, Levemir, BCP PZI or Prozinc.  In rare situations, we will assist with Vetsulin/Caninsulin or Humulin/Novolin N. There are no other insulins appropriate to give a cat as a basal insulin.
  • DCIN has a blog page on buying Lantus and Levemir insulin less expensively. Please see http://fdmb-cin.blogspot.com/2013/11/lantus.html. Please be sure to check the Craigslist for your state and other nearby states. You may want to consider buying a box of pens from a Canadian mail order pharmacy.
  • This is a good video on drawing insulin from a vial or syringe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4KtK_skpmQ&sns=em. Be especially careful to never shoot a syringe overdraw of insulin back into the vial or pen because that will contaminate your insulin and reduce its effective life.
  • A good local location for buying U100 syringes in most of the US is Walmart. Ask for the Relion brand, .3cc barrel, and 30 or 31 gauge and 8mm (short) needle. Those come with 1/2 unit markings. If you want a longer needle (1/2"), the Relion .3cc syringes only have that in a 29 gauge and they also have half unit markings. The Relions cost $12.58 per 100, plus sales tax in some locations. You also can find syringes from other local pharmacies and from Internet vendors, but usually not as inexpensively as the Relions.

FCC May Finally Include Price & Usage Caps When Weighing Broadband Deployment Progress

The FCC's long history of ignoring the broadband duopoly's stranglehold over telecom markets has at times bordered on the comedic. This is, after all, the agency that required 36 public workshops, 9 field hearings, 31 public notices and 376 pages to craft a "National Broadband Plan" that went well out of its way to avoid doing anything substantive about the lack of broadband competition. And only the FCC could spend $300 million on a broadband mapping website that completely omits price, while routinely hallucinating both competitors and available speeds.

If the FCC has an area of expertise, it has historically been empty broadband lip service and elaborate, theatrical dance routines designed to protect the status quo.

But under Tom Wheeler, we're actually starting to see this change a little bit. For example, Wheeler recently pushed the agency to bump the definition of broadband to 25 Mbps, to highlight how three-quarters of American homes lack more than one option for real broadband service. Under Wheeler, for the first time in fifteen years, the FCC is no longer pretending that U.S. broadband is robustly competitive. He's still been reticent to acknowledge high prices or the fact that broadband users are consistently gouged with misleading, below the line fees, but baby steps, right?

Now the agency has announced it is fielding inquiries on whether or not it should include usage caps, overage fees, pricing and latency when crafting its annual Broadband Progress Report on the state of broadband competition:
"Today's Notice of Inquiry further seeks comment on whether to consider standards beyond speed when assessing broadband deployment, including latency and consistency of service. And it asks whether to consider factors beyond physical deployment, including pricing and data allowances, privacy, and broadband adoption."
That's not great news for lagging broadband ISPs, given that the FCC's most recent Broadband Deployment Report already found that 55 million Americans -- 17 percent of the population -- lack access to advanced broadband, and over half of all Americans lack access to broadband at speeds of 25 Mbps down, 3 Mbps up. Factor in price, actual line performance, and whether a connection is hampered with bandwidth caps and overages, and those statistics could very quickly get much, much uglier. The FCC has also told the GAO that it may start factoring in streaming video performance when reporting on whether competitive broadband is being successfully deployed.

All told, the FCC's proposed changes will make it harder than ever for incumbent broadband ISPs to pretend that nothing's wrong with the U.S. broadband market. Not that they won't keep trying, since at this point pretending U.S. broadband is infallible is sort of a national pastime and full-time job for incumbent ISPs and their armies of paid telecom policy wonks.

CyberHarassment A Pattern of Behavior | The Powers That Beat

CyberHarassment A Pattern of Behavior | The Powers That Beat

CyberHarassment A Pattern of Behavior

CyberHarassment, A Pattern Of Behavior
Antonio Lopez, the American adult impersonating UK teenager Kree Love, has a long history on the Internet of Cyberharassment against numerous people associated with Anonymous. Many who have had some contact with him and who are serious social activists, hackers, gamers, or just innocent people that inadvertently trigger what appear to be paranoid delusions have become his victims.

Antonio aka Kree thinks nothing of lying to all of his associates about the people he wants to target in order to get them worked up into a frothing rage and jump into the front lines for him. He also thinks nothing of targeting people in his social circle. Friendship appears to mean very little to him.

It looks like Jamie McKinley taught him quite a sound lesson and as a result he's afraid to be on the front lines even with back up. Unfortunately, this hasn't stopped him from continuing his cyberharassment, it's just motivated him to modify his strategy. Now, he manipulates from behind the scenes and instigates others to go into the front lines for him so that he doesn't have to take any heat for his activities.

There are plenty of Tards out there ready to be conned into doing his dirty work. Tards who don't check out the story. If they did, they'd walk away and tell him to fight his own battles like a man, instead of hiding behind everyone else's skirts like a little pansy.

It's been my experience that all Cyberharassers are basically cowards who use the same strategies. So, the first time they instigate a harassment campaign, they need to be taught a lesson and then after that, those who shill for them, and are also, often cyberharassers in their own right, also need to be taught a lesson.

Antonio managed to hook up with people who also have the same history of cyberharassment of their own friends and others who associate with Anonymous. This entire group has done absolutely nothing since 2010 except engage in vicious cyberharassment of numerous people online both on their own and in this group.

It's important to remember that this type of nonsense never ends on it's own, and it's a mistake for people to advise others to 'ignore it and it will go away'. It won't. If you think it does, give me some actual evidence of a single situation where that happened. You'll be very hard-pressed to find one. And note that there's a difference between a normal Internet fight which flares up and is over quickly, and an actual ongoing cyberharassment campaign which someone intentionally instigates and continues to feed.

A full-fledged Cyberharassment campaign will only stop when those who engage in this nonsense are forced to stop either through social pressure, legal means, mental health intervention, standing up to them and exposing their lies, etc.

Bullying and harassment are indicators of an anti-social personality disorder in those who engage in this behavior. As a result the behavior won't stop on it's own because the instigators can't stop. They're obsessive and they feed on the negative attention.

IRL what we usually see is one bully/harasser surrounded by sheeple who do their bidding but on their own are unlikely to engage in this behavior. As a result the bullying can be stopped by socially isolating the bully from their sheeple.

Since it's become so much easier to connect with people all over the world online, we are seeing a different phenomenon develop online.

A phenomenon where groups of bullies and harassers are getting together and working together to target innocent people. Even though one bully/harasser might be the alpha dog, the other bullies and harassers are also quite capable of, and do, operate their own bullying and harassment campaigns. Kree's group is a perfect example of this.

A search on both Michael Babcock aka N2KMaster aka CoderHyguru as well as Heather Martin will give you plenty of evidence to support this fact. Both are running Hate Blogs against individuals, targeting anyone associated with those individuals, and including them on the Hate Blogs as well. I, and many others are listed on their blogs and targeted with their lies because of our associations.

These Tards appear to have forgotten that both the Canadian Charter of Rights and the US Constitution protect our right to free association and no-one, including these Tards have the right to bully and intimidate us because of who we choose to associate with. Using the 'guilt by association' fallacy is typical of demagogues and liars who are pursuing agendas and don't have any truths to support them.

Antonio Lopez aka Kree Love is also running a Hate Blog on his web site targeting me where he also targets others associated with me. He has created a sub-domain using my name without my permission where he has posted defamatory libel on DarkNet's DoxBin and used an interface to make it accessible on ClearNet.

In response to these attacks I created a web site and this blog and have commented on this topic on some other blogs I run.

I don't believe that liars should be able to lie with impunity and I don't believe they should be ignored so I do respond to public lies publicly.

Of course, Antonio aka Kree, likes to play the victim card and pretend that the opposite is true. It isn't and I can disprove any and all of the numerous variations of his stories which allege that's the case. Since there are so many variations of this lie (he has to change it every time I refute it) there's no point doing so here.

An intelligent person looking for the truth will find it in my blogs and web site.

A Tard who prefers to believe the lie will stick with the lie no matter what refutations are provided.

That said, naturally, many of the individuals targeted by these Tards don't react well to this abuse and respond in kind. When this occurs, you can absolutely certain that ALL the bullies will start a cacophony of screeching and whining about what poor little victims they are and playing the innocents. They ALL suddenly and conveniently 'forget' the inconvenient truth that people are simply responding to their abuse.

They consider themselves bullying victims whenever anyone dares to stand up to their abuse and harassment. This is a standard strategy of cyberharassers, cyberbullies and cyberstalkers and a known part of their psychological profile.

You'll see this pattern play out over and over again whenever cyberharassment is occurring.

If you care enough about ending cyberharassment, cyberbullying and cyberstalking you will pay attention to the patterns of behavior. When you do, it becomes quite easy to detect who the bullies are and who the victims are.

Not standing up to these Tards, hoping that if you ignore them they'll go away, doesn't work, has been demonstrated not to work repeatedly and is bad advice. I believe that's why people end up committing suicide because of these crazies.

Why? Because when you tell a victim to 'ignore it and it will go away' you are disempowering the victim and empowering and enabling the bully.

This not only encourages the bully to continue targeting you but it encourages them to target others as well.

They need to be deterred and not enabled.

And as I said previously deterrence occurs when they are forced to stop either through social pressure, legal means, mental health intervention, standing up to them and exposing their lies, etc.

It's the ONLY thing I've seen work and psychological research studies on those who suffer from anti-social personality disorders support this.
