Human Rights Campaign: Protect Healthcare Access for LBGTQ Americans

Human Rights Campaign

Protect Healthcare Access for LGBTQ Americans

Human Rights Campaign

Republican leadership in Congress and President Donald Trump are working to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — landmark legislation that provides access to healthcare for 22 million Americans, including millions of LGBTQ people.

The Affordable Care Act has prohibited discrimination and provided crucial health benefits for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people across the country. Without these protections, many will lose coverage for lifesaving treatment for HIV and AIDS, cancer and other serious health conditions. Access to vital transition-related care could be stripped away and affordable health insurance options simply won't exist.

Send a message to your members of Congress now asking them to prevent the Affordable Care Act from being repealed or ensure a comparable replacement plan is in place in the event that it is repealed.

SUBJECT: Do not repeal ACA without replacement

Dear [Legislator]:

As a concerned American, I am urging you to NOT repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Currently, 22 million Americans depend on the statute as it stands for lifesaving healthcare, programs such as Medicaid, and necessary protections. Millions more Americans benefit from provisions of the law like the ban on pre-existing conditions, non-discrimination protections and the ability for young people to stay on their parents' healthcare plans until age 26.

As a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, America's largest LGBTQ advocacy group, I am gravely concerned by the possible repeal of protections afforded by the ACA for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. Not only does the ACA provide comprehensive coverage and prohibit anti-LGBTQ discrimination, it also provides critical benefits for those living with HIV and AIDS and guarantees healthcare for those who otherwise could not afford it.

Please oppose the repeal of the Affordable Care Act — and under no circumstances vote to repeal without also voting on a comparable plan that ensures affordable healthcare coverage with no one losing access.
