Account | SLN7125 - Why was I notified about account access attempts?

Why was I notified about account access attempts?

If someone unsuccessfully tries to access your account or change your security questions, we'll notify you that this attempt was made through the alternate email address and/or mobile number associated with your account.

Here's what you need to know

We send a notification regarding the security of your account when changes are made to your account, when our security system has been alerted that your account may have been compromised or when you or someone is trying to access the account from a different location, computer, mobile device, or ISP which the account is usually accessed from. Our system may detect this as unusual activity.

Once you've received this type of notification:

  • If you are signing in from a new location, your account will be locked until you are able to sign in from a trusted location.
  • When you sign in, you may be asked to enter CAPTCHA word verification.
  • Be sure that you are using a secure password, and strong security questions.
  • Check if there is unusual activity happening on your account on your Recent Login Activity page.

This notification is not necessarily a reason for concern

As long as the person attempting to access your account cannot guess the security questions or password that you have on file, your account remains secure.

Here's the ISIS OPSEC Manual Used to Train Recruits About Cyber-Security

Here's the ISIS OPSEC Manual Used to Train Recruits About Cyber-Security
If you want something done right, do it yourself.

Here's the ISIS OPSEC Manual Used to Train Recruits About Cyber-Security

Yesterday, various Twitter accounts were tweeting about an ISIS OPSEC manual describing the terrorist group's cyber-security practices. The document, embedded below in a translated form, details various techniques recommended by the group to its new recruits.

While initially we thought the ISIS OPSEC manual was uncovered by the recent Anonymous hacking campaign against ISIS social media accounts, it seems that the US military has known and studied the document for quite some time now.

ISIS hijacked an OPSEC manual designed for Gaza journalists

The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point's military academy came upon the document last year, and they say that a Kuwaity security firm wrote the document to help journalists and political dissidents living in Gaza.

The original OPSEC document is written in Arabic (original document here) and was supposed to help these individuals evade detection by Israel's cyber-intelligence forces.

Apparently, ISIS members hijacked the document, took it as their own, and started sharing it with their members and giving it to new recruits.

In the eyes of a security aficionado, the manual's content contains basic security tips, but which can help non-technical users maintain a low profile and avoid being compromised by cyber-espionage efforts.

ISIS members had a list of recommended and blacklisted applications

ISIS' OPSEC manual goes on to detail a series of services and devices which members can use but also includes a list of blacklisted applications.

ISIS members are advised to use services/products like:

●      Twitter (via HTTPS or SMS)

●      Tor Browser

●      Aviator Browser

●      Opera Mini Browser

●      Photo GPS Editor (iOS app, remove geolocation data from photos)

On the blacklist, the manual lists applications and services like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Dropbox.

This manual was complemented by a 24-hour support help desk hosted on Telegram. The help desk was shut down a few days ago.

Still think I'm paranoid? Log file 1/22

Expect more logs. This is only one of 22 devices that need to be taken out.

Even if it means self-d0xing, clearly the enemy knows exactly where I am and what I'm doing 24/7.

Fuck. That. Noise.

Anonymous Trolls ISIS with Prozac and Viagra Ad

The Anonymous-ISIS war seems to be a one-sided affair, with Anonymous doing all the damage while ISIS is running scared and hiding in the Internet's darkest corners just so it can escape the onslaught of attacks it's been under in the past ten days.

While Anonymous made it a mission to hunt and take down ISIS social media accounts, and especially Twitter accounts, one of ISIS' favorite social networks, the group has been also busy finding and sabotaging their websites.

ISIS is running scared, hiding in the darkest corners of the Internet

ISIS members saw the storm coming, and just days after their Paris attacks and after Anonymous had declared war on them, they announced they would be moving their operations to the Dark Web, via .onion-hosted websites.

This didn't help them much, and the terrorists saw their main operations forum taken down by Anonymous this past weekend.

The attacks continued, and now IBTimes is reporting that GhostSec (Ghost Security Group), one of the many Anonymous groups, has compromised the Isdarat website and left a short message behind, along with an ad for an online pharmaceutics company. This website is known for selling Viagra and Prozac, and also for its Bitcoin payment option, one of the first sites to do so.

The Bitcoin mention is important because, in previous research, GhostSec also found out that ISIS members had Bitcoin wallets that contained about $3 million / €2.83 million in funds.

GhostSec: Chill out, ISIS, get some meds!

The message shown above the pharmaceutics ads reads, "Too Much ISIS. Enhance your calm. Too many people are into this ISIS-stuff. Please gaze upon this lovely ad so we can upgrade our infrastructure to give you ISIS content you all so desperately crave."

The message is basically: Take a chill pill, ISIS!

The COINTELPRO Papers: Documents from the FBI's Secret War Against Domestic Dissent by Ward Churchill and Jim Vander Wall.

In many ways, the stark unwillingness of the federal government to accord Leonard Peltier even a modicum of elementary justice is symbolic of the entire AIM experience during the 1970s and, more broadly posed, of the U.S. relationship to American Indians since the first moment of the republic. The message embedded, not only in Peltier's imprisonment, but in the scores of murders, hundreds of shootings and beatings, endless show trials and all the rest of the systematic terrorization marking the FBI's anti-AIM campaign on Pine Ridge, was that the Bureau could and would make it cost-prohibitive for Indians to seriously challenge the lot assigned them by policy-makers and economic planners in Washington, D.C. The internal colonization of Native America is intended to be absolute and unequivocal.

In 1953, just prior to the passage of PL-280, Felix Cohen, one of the foremost scholars of Indian law compared the role of the Indians in America to that of the Jews in modem Germany. He noted that, "Like the miner's canary, the Indian marks the shift from fresh air to poison air in our political atmosphere ... our treatment of Indians, even more than our treatment of other minorities, reflects the rise and fall of our democratic faith." 213 Given that all that happened on and around Pine Ridge occurred long after COINTELPRO allegedly became no more than a "regrettable historical anomaly," 214 Cohen's insight holds particular significance for all Americans. In essence, if we may ascertain that COINTELPRO remained alive and well years after it was supposed to have died, we may assume it lives on today. And that, to be sure, is a danger to the lives and liberties of everyone.
